Are You Exaggerating or Just Plain Lying?

Startups are building something new and don't always solve every problem they attempt, just as planned and right from the get-go.

That's just how it is.

We identify a problem, look for a remedy, try to build a solution, test with design partners, listen for specific signals or noise to understand what our users say or think, adapt and change, and try again, and again, and again...

...aiming to arrive at that perfect solution.

But until we get there, we need to keep our ideal users interested. That can be done through transparency, through exaggeration, or by just plain lying to them.

In your journey, you'll need to decide how you'll be talking to your audience. Transparency isn't always feasible depending on your stage, so it may come down to exaggerating your value proposition or just plain lying.

You'll be walking a fine line with both. Exaggeration is somewhat accepted if it causes no harm, but...

...no one likes being lied to. No one.
